Game Overview

Tether is a physics-driven action platformer created for the game jam theme "Layer."When the protagonist falls asleep, his consciousness connects to a web of destabilizing parallel realities. Trapped within recursive layers of REM sleep, you must traverse collapsing dimensional thresholds to restore stability across the multiverse. You cannot wake up until every single realm is saved.

The Premise & Logic

The core concept merges dream recursion with multidimensional travel:

• Dream Layers & Void Hazard: The deeper into sleep you descend, the more fragile reality becomes. Missing a maneuver drops you straight into the Void—the bottomless baseline of non-existence caused by a severed connection.
• The Pendulum Tether: Your primary instrument is the Tether line. Functioning as a focal anchor and swinging web, it lets you utilize gravity, momentum, and centrifugal force to traverse vast gaps between fracturing platforms.
• Dimensional Objective: Each dream layer represents a distinct world facing catastrophic disruption. To stabilize a layer, navigate its environmental hazards, secure its core anchor, and drop deeper into the next dimension until the entire chain is locked.

Controls

Move (A / D or Arrow Keys)
Controls horizontal directional momentum while grounded or mid-air.

Jump / Wall Eject (Spacebar)
Initiates a vertical leap or launches off vertical surfaces to gain initial height.

Attach Tether (Left Mouse Click)
Fires an energy anchor to attach to overhead grapple points or platform edges.

Reel / Adjust Length (W / S)
Adjusts tether line length while swinging to alter your momentum arc and velocity.

Release Tether (Release Mouse Click)
Detaches the line at the peak of your arc to convert swinging momentum into forward speed.

Brief Summary

Gameplay relies on precision trajectory timing. Scan upcoming terrain, attach the Tether line at optimal angles, and maintain continuous forward flow. As you progress into deeper layers, gravity variables change, platforms shift, and environmental hazards increase in complexity. Falling out of bounds snaps your line, sending your consciousness back to the start of the current dimensional layer.
